EquipKenya is a holistic ministry of MissionLink International. We believe that the best way to show the love of God is by providing food, basic education, vocational training and improving housing conditions while proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ. We work with a network of indigenous ministers headed by Rev. Euticauls Wambua to assist and equip local pastors to fulfill their God-given vision for reaching the precious people of Kenya.

Although we are involved in ministry outreach throughout the nation of Kenya, one of the primary focuses of our ministry is the Korogocho Slum, outside of Nairobi.  Korogocho comes from the Kiswahili language and means, “crowded shoulder-to-shoulder.”  Current estimates are that as many as 500,000 to 700,000 people live in this slum built in less than three square miles on top of an active trash dump. Over half of the residents are children.

EquipKenya is involed with numerous projects throughout the various ministries that we support, ranging from acquiring land and driling wells to providing Bibles and advanced education for the leaders of the various ministries. The following is a list of current projects by ministry. Come, partner with us and help proclaim the good news of the Gospel of Jesus and show His love for these precious people!
Our biggest need is for partners to support us in prayer. We know that without that, all of our ministry is futile!

Baptist Chapel
  • A major need of the Church in Africa in general is for properly trained leaders. To that end,
    • We are working with Precept Ministries International in order to begin training leaders in Rev. Wambua's church and the mission church Pastors in the Inductive Bible Study Method. This will provide
a solid foundation which they can pass on to their future leaders and lay church members.
    • We want to support Pastor Wambua in pursuing his undergraduate degree in Biblical Studies through online education.  He is quite interested in the program offered by Liberty University.  The cost would be around $1,000.00 per class (8-week course) including books.
  • There is a great need for Sunday School material and Bibles at all of the churches.  Bibles can be purchased in Swahili, English and Tribal Languages for about $15.00 each.
  • There are 4 more plots adjacent to the church that we want to purchase each at $6,000.00 for total of $24,000.00.  The vision for future land acquisition of other 4 properties includes expansion for a permanent infirmary, College and a Missions house which would allow teams to cut down on the cost of future Kenya missions.
  • We want to construct a permanent 3 story stone building on land that the church already owns for Bible Study, Sunday School, and Prayer rooms.  Cost of this project would be around $40,000.00.
  • We are currently working on a joint effort with MissionLink International for acquisition of property behind Baptist Chapel to enlarge sanctuary as it has been outgrown.  The cost of the property is $5,400.00.  Baptist Chapel is raising $2,700.00 by the end of Nov. and MissionLink International and EquipKenya are going to match them in order to purchase lot.
  • We want to bless Rev Wambua and his family by building a home on property that he already owns in same area as the church. He now lives in very small apartment. The new house would mean that he would be able to host and even allow small mission teams to stay with him in the community that he and they alike would be ministering.  This would also cut down significantly on travel expenses as well as room and board. The cost of the house would be around $40,000.

Kariobangi Baptist Youth Center
  • We want to lease 10 acres of farmland in Western Kenya to raise food for Youth Centre until Malili well project is complete. The cost of food for 300 children and 21 staff is around $1,200.00 per month. We can lease 10 acres of farmland in western Kenya for $1,000.00 per year. Seed will cost around $500.00 and it would cost $250.00 to hire farmer.  The yield from the crop should provide at least 9-12 months of food. We currently are leasing 5 acres in Western Kenya (Kitale) and this year's harvest produced enough maise to meet the entire year's needs. This means that we only need to purchase rice and beans for the coming year.
  • Child sponsorship is really important as most of the children cannot afford even $2-3 per month for tuition.  We are working with African School Fees.
  • As there is always a monthly budget challenge for the children there is also a monthly budget crunch among the certified staff making the sacrifice to share their gift and the love of Christ with the slum children.  I don't have a plan for sponsoring a teacher though I am in the process of making one.  I believe teachers here would certainly have a heart for supporting them as it would be like a teacher here leaving the suburbs to go teach a share the love of Christ in the ghetto.  (Any of your ideas would be welcomed)
  • The main project we need to tackle over the next 5 years is a 3-4 story stone building much like the new one that is currently being completed.  The school is adding a grade each year and will continue until school goes all the way through High School. We will be working with an engineer in the near future to get blue prints and break down the construction into at least 3 phases.
  • We want to put in a computer room to teach the children how to use Microsoft Office etc. Due to support problems associated with used systems, we are asking partners to donate new computer systems.
  • Because of locale (the Korogocho Slum) there is a need for a stone fence to keep thieves and robbers out though thieves are not as bad as in the past due to the many needs that are being met through the Youth Centre.  The cost of this fence would be $5,000.00.
  • We want to partner with Pastor Wambua's church to start impacting the community on a practical level by building one home at a time. The new home will replace existing tin, cardboard and wood shanties with a steel structure and stone walls. The cost of each new 15X8 home will be $2,500.00.
Kamawongo Real Life Church
  • We need $4,000.00 to finish basic construction of the building (floor, plaster, windows, toilet, etc.).
  • The church also needs basic furnishings, including:
    • Pews - $1,000.00
    • PA System and Mics - $1,000.00
    • Bibles - $15 each in tribal Language
  • Each of the 4 mission churches also has a need for a parsonage so that the Pastors can fully give themselves to communities and not have to spend so much wasted time in travel.  Parsonages can be built in these rural areas for $2,000.00.

Kijawa Baptist Tabernacle

  • The church needs basic furnishing for the building, including:
    • Chairs/pews - $1,000.00
    • PA System and mics - $1,000.00
    • Electricity and wiring - $1,200.00
    • Well and Piping - to be determined
Kyuso Baptist Church
  • The most urgent need is land for building project. A 50X100 lot will cost $2,000.00
  • The building itself will cost $10,000. As always, we will use local help since this builds trust and provides a much needed boost to the village's morale and economy.
  • There will be need for additional Bibles as church is starting to grow. $15 ea. in tribal language.
Malili Baptist Church
  • Due to the nature of the rocky soil in the area, the depth of well required, and the pipeline needed to pipe the water to the neighboring villages, the approximate cost of this project is $25,000.  This well would supply the people of Malili with many opportunities, as the establishment of a stable water source would eliminate many problems that the villagers are currently experiencing (long searches for water, disease fostered in the open wells, insufficient water to sustain the people, crops and livestock).
  • We also just received the funds to purchase fifteen acres adjacent to the well site. The vision for this land acquisition is to grow crops for Youth Centre as land will be irrigated once well is drilled.  This will reduce, possibly eliminate a monthly need for food to be purchased for youth centre.  We also want to build an infirmary, which would be the only one in the district.  We also want to build a trade school that will be similar to what we do for the older youth in the slums training them in a trade so that they may be able to start a business and advance community.
  • The church needs basic furnishing for the building, including:
    • Pews/chairs $1,000.00
    • Generator and PA system $1,500.00 for both.
    • Bibles in tribal language - $15 each.
Calvary Community International Church
  • Living Word Christian Fellowship is currently meeting in a temporary shelter. We want to be able to build a new building that will provide better protection from the weather and house the church offices on land that the church already owns.
  • Once the new building is completed, we wil need office tools and equipment, including computers.
  • We would like to be able to purchase a third plot of land next to the two that we have already purchased, at a cost of $6700. This plot will allow for future church school expansion/extension.
  • We need to raise basic monthly support of $250 for Anthony Ndambuki who is currently pastoring this church.
  • We want to raise the necessary funds to cover the cost of Anthony's masters degree from Shalom Bible College. The cost per semester is $335.
