"For God and My Country"
Uganda is a landlocked country in East Africa and borders Kenya, Sudan, Congo, Rwanda, and Tanzania. The country got its name from Buganda Kingdom which was located in the south part of the country which includes the capital city of Kampala which is one of the largest cities in Africa. Uganda is a country that is so poor that they live under the international poverty level of $ 1.25 a day. The Country became independent from the United Kingdom in October 9, 1962 and is now ruled by democratic republic President Yoweri Museveni and Prime Minister Apolo Nisibami. Uganda has a population of 30,900,000 people and is divided into four religions: Roman Catholic (42%); Protestant(42%); Islam (12%); and other or none(4%). Sports are a major part of the country's culture and are also very popular. In February of 2009 Uganda finished runner up in the World Cricket league which was held in Argentina, which helped them gain a place in the World Cup Qualifier which is held in South Africa. Rugby is also a very popular sport in the country and in 2007 Uganda won the Africa Cup beating Madagascar. Luganda, sometimes called Ganda, is the major language of Southern Uganda, and is spoken by ten million people including the capital Kampala.
